Instagram seems to be rolling out the ability to edit comments for a portion of users, based on multiple recent reports on Reddit, X, and Threads.

Users are seeing an “Edit” option appear directly below their comments alongside the existing ‘Reply’ and ‘Share on Threads’ buttons. Once a comment is edited, it shows an “Edited” label, so other users can tell it was changed after posting.

The feature is not live for everyone. A user in Canada confirmed having it, but someone in Europe said they do not. Another Reddit user tried to show the feature to a friend and found the friend’s account did not have it either. That kind of spotty availability is pretty typical of how Meta tests features before any wider push.

There is no official announcement from Instagram or Meta as of writing.

For years, Instagram users had no way to fix a comment after posting. If you spotted a typo, the only option was to delete the comment entirely and retype it, which is especially annoying because Instagram does not let you copy your own comment text. The frustration around this has come up repeatedly over in the past couple of years.

Early reactions are positive. One user said, “Instagram comments finally got an edit button? Do you know how many times I’ve had to redo a whole damn comment because of a typo?” Similarly, another user posted, “Instagram is finally allowing us to edit comments! What a time to be alive 🥳”

I checked my account on Android and iOS, but I don’t see the ‘Edit’ button just yet. So if you aren’t seeing it, you’ll simply have to wait until the rollout spreads.

Meta has a history of testing features with small groups and either expanding them or dropping them without explanation. For instance, reports about users seeing a ‘Story Rewatch’ feature showing up have been popping up now and then, but it hasn’t ever been released widely.

Comment editing is a basic feature on most competing platforms, including YouTube and X, so it would not be a surprise if Instagram eventually makes this permanent. But for the moment, it is still something only select users can access.

I cover fast-moving stories across apps, online platforms, and everyday tech — phones, wearables, consoles, and whatever else people are fighting with this week. Bugs, rollouts, scams, policy enforcement, and the occasional internet-culture rabbit hole are all fair game. My goal is simple — make confusing tech news readable.
