Some Chime account holders have lately been encountering an issue where the SpotMe limit is not increasing properly.
SpotMe is a free service that allows one to cover unexpected expenses even if they don’t actually have that much money in their account.
Customers can have their limits increased up to $200 over time depending on the frequency and amount of direct deposits, spending activity, and other risk factors.
Chime account holders disappointed with SpotMe not increasing
However, by looking at the reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), it appears that users are unable to get their SpotMe limits increased.
They claim that it remains at a stagnant level despite extended periods of large direct deposits. This has led to a sense of disappointment and, in some cases, a perception that Chime’s team has deceived people.
Some assert that their limit only increased from $20 to $50 after maintaining two direct deposits for over two years. While others argue that despite connecting their direct deposit, the company did not raise their overdraft limit.

Surprisingly, some have also observed instances where their SpotMe limit decreased from $50 to $30. As per the claim, it has remained stuck at $30 ever since.
An impacted user says that their SpotMe limit remains at a mere $20 even after consistently receiving large direct deposits on a weekly basis for over a year.
Sadly, they are unable to get the issue resolved despite contacting Chime’s support team time and again.
I was told they’ll increase me to 40 if I connected my direct deposit, have yet to see an increase. But hey it keeps me working.

Another adds that their SpotMe limit does not change even after maintaining a flawless account history. They mention that they surpass the minimum requirements for weekly direct deposits by a significant margin.
A subset of users even got so frustrated with the issue that they decided to leave the service altogether.
That’s the same thing they keep telling me. Been with them over two years, two direct deposit and was just increased from $20 spot me to $50.

Interestingly, a few (1,2) report that their overdraft limits have increased numerous times over the years. And they say that they will never leave this bank.
Chime’s response
Chime has responded to the matter and stated that limits are based on a wide range of factors related to one’s account. They also say that customers will be informed once the criteria are met.
