Google Phone app users are experiencing an issue where dual SIM is not working with Assistant. Instead, they are stuck with a grayed out ‘Choose SIM for this call’ option.

The app’s dual SIM calling with Assistant feature is a convenient and flexible way to make calls and save money.

However, it seems that multiple users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) are facing difficulties while placing calls with the help of Google Assistant. And this is because they are unable to choose a SIM for calling.

As per the claims, the ‘Choose SIM for this call’ option appears grayed out, making it impossible to call anyone.

Surprisingly, users are facing this problem while trying to connect with contacts who have already been assigned a specific SIM for calling. But luckily, they can use the app as intended when not using the Google Assistant.

Notably, some claim to be experiencing such issues only while trying to connect with contacts who have already been assigned the SIM to be used. Interestingly, they can connect with other contacts without any hiccups.

And undoubtedly, this is quite disappointing for those who utilized this feature for their day-to-day tasks and could earlier connect with different contacts in a jiffy.

I have two sims set up on my pixel 6, and If I ask Google Assistant to call someone it will ask me to choose from which Sim I want to call but it does not let me select from the options.

One of those affected says that they cannot use both their physical SIM and eSIM to place calls while their phone is connected to the car.

And sadly, they could not resolve this problem by unpairing and re-pairing their phone with the car.

In addition to this, resetting the car’s Bluetooth, media, and navigation systems had no effect as well.

The issue popped up after a recent app update and has been affecting users for more than a month.

Some people have already tried clearing the app cache, restarting the smartphone, and tinkering with various settings without success.

Potential workaround

Fortunately, you can try uninstalling all updates for the Phone app and restoring it back to the default version for a potential fix.

It is also recommended that you disable ‘Automatic Updates’ for the app from the Play Store. Otherwise, it will automatically update to the buggy version.
