Here’s the crux of the article in video form:

In the world of smartphones, Google Pixel devices have garnered a reputation for their exceptional camera quality, clean user interface, and overall performance.

And with its Pixel 7 lineup, it takes the center stage in the competitive smartphone market. However, that still doesn’t guarantee immunity from various bugs and issues (1,2,3).

And now, a recent issue related to screen brightness has left users of the latest Google Pixel models frustrated.

Google Pixel 7 & 7 Pro screen brightness dimming under sunlight

Reports indicate that Pixel 7 and 7 Pro devices suffer from a screen brightness throttling issue, resulting in dim displays when used under direct sunlight (1,2,3,4,5,6).

Me and my wife got pixel 7 pros recently and both getting annoyed at the screen dimming after a minute or two when in daylight. Is there a way to stop this happening or allow it to go a bit longer at least before dimming, something in developer options maybe?

Is there any way to hack the “security feature” that makes the display to DIM in the sun? Wholly crazy the phone is too dim at bright light, I just realized that…

We previously noted that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro devices are susceptible to overheating due to the Tensor G2 because of insufficient optimization.

To combat this issue and prevent overheating, Google frequently reduces the brightness on the phones when under direct sunlight.

For individuals who rely on their smartphones while on the go, this issue has been a constant source of frustration. As a result, they’re left with phone screens that are hardly readable outside due to screen brightness restriction.

No official comment in sight

Unfortunately, Google hasn’t commented on the issue where Pixel 7 and 7 Pro users have been facing screen brightness dimming issues when under sunlight.

It’s rather surprising that there hasn’t been any acknowledgment yet given that this issue has been a problem for some users from the start and has just become worse with recent updates.

It’s unlikely that, if ever, we’ll see a suitable fix for this. But if and when there is any information about the issue, we’ll update it here so stay tuned for more.
