The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX is a high-end graphics card that promises to push the boundaries of performance, visuals, and efficiency for both gamers and creators.

Built on the groundbreaking AMD RDNA 3 architecture, this GPU promises to deliver an exceptional experience at 4K and beyond.

AMD RX 7900 XTX high junction temperature

However, recent reports have surfaced regarding high junction temperatures, raising concerns among AMD RX 7900 XTX users (1,2,3,4,5).

Despite its impressive performance capabilities, some users are experiencing high junction temperatures. These temperatures have been recorded consistently in the range of 100+ degrees Celsius.

Furthermore, the temperature difference between the GPU core and the junction can be as high as 40 degrees Celsius, indicating an abnormal level of heat concentration.

The sustained high temperatures experienced by the Radeon RX 7900 XTX can have severe consequences. One immediate impact is a noticeable drop in performance.

When operating under such thermal stress, the GPU may throttle its clock speeds and reduce its performance to prevent further overheating.

I would like an opinion when i game my Core temp is rather fine as far as i know still kinda high for what i seen can be accomplishd. But what worries me is the Junction temps that goes for max 112-113.

I am getting good GPU temps while gaming with 60-70C but my junctional is going up to 95 and sometimes 100C after just a few minutes on plague tale Req.

Moreover, extended usage at such high temperatures can potentially harm other hardware components in the system.

Increased heat can lead to thermal degradation of various sensitive elements such as the motherboard, CPU, and memory modules. Over time, this can compromise the stability and longevity of the entire system.

Potential workaround

A potential workaround for this situation has emerged that involves overclocking/undervolting your GPU. Also, 2800MHz seems to be a ‘safe’ speed to avoid the issue:

I downclocked my reference card to 2800MHz, since then no issues, I figured this was the solution on my card since every time I get a driver crash it reset my gpu clock to something like 3030 or 3100 (every time something else).

We hope that AMD will address the RX 7900 XTX high junction temperature issue and give a solution to those affected as soon as possible.

That said, we’ll keep track of the situation and post an update if and when there are any further developments regarding the matter.
